What Does an Appointment Involve?
As an Osteopath my hands are used to apply
gentle pressure and manipulate the relevant parts of
the body to release stresses and tension and to mobilise
joints. Methods range from the massage of muscles and
ligaments, through passive stretching and traction,
to manipulative separation techniques (which patients
feel as a click) to improve joint mobility. Electrotherapy
may also be used e.g. ultrasound.
- Each patient is carefully screened with
a full case history taken on the first appointment
and all orthopaedic and neurological testing is applied
as appropriate.
- Advice is also given on exercise, nutrition,
lifestyle, stress
and posture.
- Orthotics may also be prescribed to
correct the underlying cause of any structural imbalance.
